A few AOL users have tried to registers here and have run into problems.  Specifically, when an AOL user goes thru the NobodyOpen.com registration processes, they get an error at the end saying “You are not authorized to do this”.  We’ve determined that this is because of an issue using the AOL Web Browser combined with some technical safeguards we’ve put into place to ensure against spammers and hackers.

Fortunately, if you use a broadband connection, it is still easy for you to register.  Simply connect to the Internet through your broadband connection and use a different browser (eg. use Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari, etc).  This should work fine.

Unfortunately, if you are using AOL Client software and a dial-up connection, then we can’t help without jeopardizing the security of our systems.  But if you are still using dial-up, do yourself a favor and get yourself broadband internet access… you will save lots of time and effort, and the Web will seem so much more useful to you!

I should also note that regardless of how you connect to and view the internet, you will always be able to read and browse our sites. It’s the logging in and commenting that we currently don’t have a solution for.

I work here.

Webby...you shouldn’t have to sign in twice when coming to this website.  What browser are you using?

On a related note, if you check the check-box next to “Remember Me?” when you sign in, you won’t have to sign on every time you visit the site even once (the site will remember your log-in automatically).

As always, if you are having problems and are using the AOL Browser, try using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari instead...the site works much better with those…

I’m pretty surprised with all the problems people seem to be having, because I haven’t experienced any of those problems, and I’m posting to this board more than anyone...!  Again, if you use Internet Explorer, Safari, or Firefox instead of AOL Browser, things will work much better.  If you are using those browsers and are still having problems, let me know the details…

I still use aol for most of my internet usage, so I figure its that. I’m just so used to it and the format (and you know how hard it is to teach an old dog new tricks :-)

A quick comment about this site and AOL browser:

When we implemented this site, we put in a lot of security functions to prevent things like hackers and software “spiders” from posting spam and/or stealing sign-in information, etc.  Most of these things adhere to industry “standards” that are also implemented in browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, et al.  Unfortunately, the AOL Browser does *not* adhere to many of these standards, and as a result, often has hiccups when using that browser to post on this site.  For us to address these hiccups, we’d have to code a number of exception processing to make it work with AOL Browser.  Given how few people in the country/world actually use the AOL Browser, our tech team doesn’t really think it’s worth making these “fixes”.  In addition, making those fixes might also compromise the security functions.

So I apologize for requesting that you use a different browser to use this site, but it’s really in your best interest to do so anyways as a better means of protecting your personal information.  I know that some of you will say that there are other sites on the Web that you don’t have problems with...I’ll say that it’s probable that those sites don’t implement the security functions, and in our opinion, that’s not very safe…
