Training camp for the SUPER BOWL CHAMPION NEW YORK GIANTS has started. It feels great to type those words. I have not been this excited for a season since 1990. This year’s team is deep and talented. It has a proven quarterback and a stable of running backs that is the envy of most teams. It has an offensive line that has played together for years where the whole is better than its individual parts. Of course, there are some issues that need to be resolved, but that is what training camp is for.

Jeremy Shockey joined the Giants like a Hurricane in 2002. He talked bold and played fearlessly. After a down year, he was the perfect jolt of energy for the team. In his first game in the preseason, he showed why the Giants traded up for him by catching a pass and intentionally knocking over a Houston Texan player for a big catch. For Giants fans used to timidity on offense, he was a breath of fresh air. He brought a physicality to the offense that it sorely needed. He was young, brash, outspoken and beloved. He quickly became the most popular player on the team as fans flocked to purchase his team jersey. He rewarded the team with multiple pro bowls and his foibles were quickly forgotten because he always played hard.
